Striking Matches: Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays

Barefoot in the snow with blue and frozen toes,

A match girl strikes a fire to ward away the cold.

And in the sputter of the flame she seems to see

A stove to warm her hands; the comfort of a tree;

A roast to heal her hunger; and arms of empathy.

Friendships begin with faith.
May those close take a leap for you.

Happy Holidays. See you on Dec. 27.

A take on the old fable? Very famous where I grew up. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your loved ones, Rich. Thank you for inspiring and participating.

Thank you all and Merry Christmas. We're tracking Santa via Norad (http://www.noradsanta.org/) at the moment, but I wanted to quickly wish everyone well tonight.

And why yes Valeria, I suspect many people are familiar with The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Andersen. My grandmother read it to me frequently. Its significance to me given away in the pea post. Knowing The Little Match Girl story, which inspired the poem, lends even more to it, I think.

All my best,
Rich
